TERRY O'DONNELL
Terry steps up to Chair after taking over service conditions when the branches merged. He was previously active in the ex NUPE Edinburgh No1 branch. A keen sense of humour, a talent for negotiation and persuasion and an ability to knock down pomposity - aye he's a janitor.
Likes: Winning money. Dislikes: Rule changes.
AGNES PETKEVICIUS
A long standing steward in Lothian Region's Education Department before taking on the officer's role in the new City of Edinburgh branch.
Renowned for her incisive wit and cartoons of conference delegations, Agnes works in a nursery school for children with different needs.
Likes: A laugh. Dislikes: Smoke filled rooms (actually and figuratively).
JOHN STEVENSON
Branch secretary of the old Lothian Region Branch before putting himself in the frame for the new Edinburgh branch.
Stood aside as Secretary to concentrate on communications, and vice-chair, and maybe a bit of policy, or even service conditions, and certainly getting involved in branch organisation....
On the Scottish Communications Committee and edits the Scottish activists' bulletin. Never done playing with computers and writing detailed responses to council policies.
Works as a children and families Social Worker. Claims he "doesn't do homers" when asked to intervene in personal disputes in the branch. Married with two young children.
Likes: Computers and beer (or vice versa depending how close it is to closing time). Dislikes: Other people labouring under the misconception that he might be wrong about something.
GILLIAN ALLAN
Welfare officer in the old Lothian branch, carried the local Welfare Fund through all the legal hurdles into the new branch. Welfare is a very onerous task which she shares with Julie Harris.
Gillian works in the Joint Valuation Board.
JULIE HARRIS
Job share partner Julie Harris worked with Gillian in the old Lothian branch and followed the same route. Julie works in the Finance Department. Both have been active stewards as well as taking on the Welfare role.
The job involves counselling, negotiation and advocacy on behalf of members with agencies like the council, building societies and debt agencies, as well as financial assistance in exceptional circumstances.
CAMERON DAY
He's new, he's energetic and he's keen. Why is he a branch officer? Cameron works in the council's Finance Department. More details later.
THE AUDITORS
By tradition auditors are anonymous! We only have the treasurer's word that they are nit-picking, fastidious and unreasonable. But then that's how treasurers usually interpret diligent, perceptive and conscientious!
