Moments 5 1989 and Lothian and Edinburgh shut down as 8,000 staff strike against attempts to undermine national bargaining. With Building Control workers out, even the Festival was under threat. We won, and got an 8% pay rise out of it!. Second from the left is current branch secretary Morag Stevenson. It was glorious weather throughout the strike and you could tell the strikers by the suntans. |
