Young Members in UNISON How we organise UNISONScotland Young Members Pages Student pages UNISON UK Young Members pages			Young members organisation is at the heart of UNISON with a committee at Scottish and UK level and a special branch officer post in UNISON Edinburgh Where young people are part of a workforce represented by a trade union they get a better deal, including improved pay and career opportunities, and are less at risk from exploitation, accidents and injury compared to young workers in non-unionised workplaces. That's why our priority is to recruit and support more young members. National minimum wage UNISON is fighting to end the different age rates in the minimum wage. Living wage for nursing and midwifery students UNISON campaigns and lobbies for a decent living wage for all nursing and midwifery students. See the UNISONScotland Students pages. Grants not fees UNISON has been campaigning against the Government's decision to abolish student grants and introduce tuition fees since 1998. These and a whole range of other initiatives like www.troubleatwork.org.uk, for free UNISON advice about workplace problems especially for students and young employees, make it well worth joining UNISON Scotland and getting active in the union. Use the Join button at the top to get a form.... How we organise Scottish Young Members Forum ..elects representatives to the UK National Young Members Forum. Each region can send two delegates. The Regional Young Members forums feed their regional work into national campaigns and help ensure the priorities of their region reflect the concerns of young workers. To get involved with either the UK Young Members forum or the Scottish Forum, contact the branch office on 0131 558 7488 or at branchoffice@unison-edinburgh.org.uk The National Young Members Forum UNISON young members have a strong voice in the union through the National Young Members Forum. This forum has the same responsibility as our Branch Young Members Officer: Increasing the recruitment of young people Ensuring the issues of concern to young workers are at the heart of UNISON's negotiating agenda Encouraging participation of young workers at all levels of the union Improving the image of the union amongst young workers Launching campaigns on key issues effecting young workers National Young Members Conference Another way to get involved is to register as a delegate for the National Young Members' Conference. This conference takes the form of a series of skills-based workshops and plenary sessions to help young members get more active in the union.
