REPORT 2003
7,000 hits a week on website
Branch Magazine:
The Branch Magazine again won a UK merit award in 2003. However,
we have not issued as many as we would have liked this year
(only quarterly) but this has been more to do with the number
of issues facing us than anything else. The magazine takes about
three weeks from writing to getting into workplaces and for
major issues this is too long.
We have therefore concentrated on special bulletins on specific
issues and about 20 of those have gone out throughout the year.
The Branch Website at
www.unison-edinburgh.org.uk
has become a very important tool not only in getting out news
quickly in situations like the nursery nurse action but also
as a resource for more detailed documents like those for Joint
Future, Social Work issues and this Annual Report.
The site now has 366 pages and in the last quarter of 2003
had 7,000 hits per week with 1,700 user sessions. The top visited
pages were Nursery Nurses, Press Releases and About the Branch.
Media
We continue to try to get members' views across in the media
and there has hardly been a week in 2003 when UNISON was not
reported.
Key issues this year were the constant struggle for imaginative
events to keep the nursery nurses in the public eye and a different
approach to try to get the detailed issues of the Social Work
Inquiry understood.
Other issues included Libraries and Sheltered Housing to name
just two.
