28 February 2013 is RSI Awareness
Day
Repetitive strain injuries (RSI)
are a range of injuries to muscles, tendons,
and nerves and can affect any of the limbs.
RSI is neither a hazard nor a risk, but is a
health problem which is often caused by work.
RSIs are also commonly known as
Muskuloskeletal Disorders. The causes of RSI
include: Working too fast, excessive workloads,
long hours, a lack of variety or breaks, overuse,
repetitive movements, awkward grip or positions,
using too much force, badly designed equipment,
poor working environments (including low temperatures)
and stress.
UNISON members at risk include:
carpenters, cooks, care assistants, cleaners,
office workers, drivers, nurses, and computer
users.
If you think that you are affected
by RSI in your job please contact your UNISON
Safety Representative or the Branch Health and
Safety Officer (care of the Branch Office).
