Back your Nursery Nurses - message
to the public
We are sorry if our action has inconvenienced
you
...but 15 years after the last review of
Nursery Nurses' jobs, Scotland's councils have
dragged out talks for 18 months, only to get
back to where we started. They even added some
worse proposals.
We cannot get them to talk seriously and that
is why we have been forced into strike action.
A massive 90% of those voting in the ballot
backed the action.
Why have we been forced to take action?
- Since the last review our jobs have changed
massively. That is why we asked for a review
of the status, career structure and pay of
nursery nurses across Scotland.
- In 2001 the employers said it had to be
dealt with piecemeal in each of the 32 local
councils with no real timescale. Edinburgh
Council rejected our claim. We won a joint
Scottish working party - but then the employers
passed it all back to local level!
- Worse still, they also said Nursery Nurses
in schools/classes would now be part time,
with the potential loss of pay and pension
rights.
- A qualified Nursery Nurse with two years
training and 20 years experience can be on
as little as £13,800 a year. And yet,
the Scottish Executive says that quality education
and care for the under 5's is a priority.
It is time to recognise the skilled and important
job Nursery Nurses do. It is time for a fair
deal across Scotland. Don't let them fob us
off any longer.
Please support a fair deal for Nursery Nurses.
