The General
Political Fund - not affiliated to any
political party - is used for general campaigning,
for example the long campaign for a Scottish
Parliament. The branch can access these funds
when it needs to run campaigns concerning political
decisions.
The major campaigns it has funded
recently include:
-
a MORI poll which showed that the general
public overwhelmingly (83 per cent - 91%
in Scotland) rejects the idea of bringing
private companies into our public services.
This formed the basis of our cinema and
newspaper ad campaign - Remember 83!
-
Campaigns against council housing sell-offs
including the successful one in Edinburgh
-
Anti-racist festivals - including the Edinburgh
Mela
- Campaign for rights of Asylum Seeker Children
initiated by Edinburgh abd Aberdeenshire branches
-
The Durham Miners gala
-
Local campaigns against the Private Finance
Initiative
