We recently carried out a survey among City of Edinburgh Council members on their experience of workplace violence . Your participation has been instrumental in shedding light on important aspects of workplace experiences.
You can read the full survey report here
We have also issued the following press release here
Survey Highlights:
The survey witnessed an impressive participation rate, with 758 members contributing their insights. Here are some key findings:
Prevalence of Violence:
The survey revealed that a significant number of respondents have encountered or witnessed various forms of workplace violence, emphasising the urgency of addressing this issue.
Reporting and Feedback:
While commendable reporting rates were observed (80.5%), feedback mechanisms from the employer have room for improvement. Your input will guide us in advocating for more effective resolution processes.
Awareness and Support:
Awareness of reporting procedures was high (75.9%), but there’s an opportunity to enhance this further. Many members expressed interest in attending UNISON briefings on violence at work, demonstrating the need for additional support and information.
What’s Next?
Your union is committed to translating these insights into action. Here’s what we’re working on:
Advocacy and Representation:
We will advocate for clearer reporting procedures and improved feedback mechanisms to ensure your concerns are addressed promptly and effectively.
Training and Safety Briefings:
Look out for upcoming training sessions and support programs focused on educating members about workplace violence, mental health, and available resources.
Cultural Shift Initiatives:
Together, we will work towards fostering a workplace culture that prioritises respect, understanding, and zero tolerance for violence. Your voices will guide us in implementing meaningful change.
Dialogue with Employer:
We will shortly look to engage with CEC to ensure that policies are regularly reviewed, updated, and align with the evolving needs of our members. We have also written to all Cllrs regarding the survey findings you can read our letter here.
