The sight of a party with Nazi elements winning elections in German states along with racist violence in the UK should send a chill down the spine of anyone who believes in equality and human rights.
After the shocking events in Rotherham and elsewhere Stand up to Racism launched a wave of mass mobilisations which confronted the far right and showed the majority are opposed to this. 2,000 assembled in Edinburgh. But alternatives have been suggested.
Keir Starmer claims police action stopped the far right (while his Home Secretary launches the deporting of asylum seekers). Others argue against mobilising on the streets, some even saying we should understand the racists have what they call ‘legitimate concerns’.
With Farage getting 4 million votes for Reform UK and Robinson supporters still seeking every avenue they can to build their hateful movement the debate about strategy remains very urgent.
