UNISON LGBT+ members were joined by LGBT+ UNISON members from all over the UK at their 2024 LGBT+ Annual Conference last weekend at the EICC. Our delegation of eight City of Edinburgh Council employees was the biggest the Edinburgh branch has sent for many years.
In between all the serious stuff up for debate like mental health issues, discrimination, and harassment (issues which all still proportionally affect the LGBT+ community much more than the general population), we all still found the energy to have a good time, network & make new friends, and of course have a fun weekend. Several heads in the hall (including mine) were a bit sorry on the Sunday session.
Conference ended with a rousing rendition of the Tom Robinson Band’s (Sing If you’re) Glad to be Gay. And for that day, at that time we all truly were 😊
The full report will be presented to the next Branch Committee meeting on Wednesday 6 December (2PM – 4PM) at City Chambers.
Transgender Awareness Month NOVEMBER 2024
No transgender members attended the LGBT+ Members Group relaunch meeting last August, consequently no transgender events were organised.
All UNISON members who identify as LGBT+ including lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, queer, intersex, ace, aro, non-binary and all other identities under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella are welcome to join the members group and attend any events organised.
