National Day of Protest. Stop the Far Right

Members will be aware of the recent racist attacks by far-right fascists supported by certain vile individuals and political groups in parts of the UK. The disgraceful scenes of violence and destruction is completely unacceptable in today’s society. At this week’s branch committee, UNISON City of Edinburgh, unanimously condemned these scenes of violence, which have seriously impacted our members, friends, and colleagues from the ethnic minority community. As a result, we have placed our concerns in writing to the senior management team and elected members.

But that is not enough said Ian Mullen, Branch Education Officer. Already there are reports that the far-right are arranging a protest at a hotel on the outskirts of Edinburgh, which is currently home to asylum seekers. We cannot allow these fascists to infiltrate our communities. Edinburgh Stand Up To Racism have arranged a National Day of Protest against the far-right and we would encourage our activists, members, and colleagues to attend in a strong show of solidarity against racial and all forms of discrimination. The demonstration will take place on Saturday 10 August 2024, at 11am outside the Scottish Parliament.

UNISON UK have released a statement on our national website: https://www.unison.org.uk/news/article/2024/08/opinion-unison-will-stand-up-to-the-politics-of-hate/
