Porty Pride 2025 was successful, even though the Dog Walk was soggy (you can really smell dozens of dogs when it rains ), but unfortunately UNISON turnout was poor. Only Lynn McLaughlan, women members officer and I were there to carry the UNISON rainbow flags. Well done, Lynn, your support was greatly appreciated. However, kudos to one member of the LGBT+ members group who marched on her own anyway.
Kudos also goes out to Mark Laidlaw, branch equalities officer who set up and ran the stall while Lynn and I took in the wet doggy air along the esplanade. Thanks, also to Don Naismith, shop steward and Katrina Baird, Children & Families convenor for helping out at the stall which generated lots of interest.
There was lots of engagement from UNISON members of Edinburgh as well as other local UNISON branches, but more satisfying was the interest shown by non-members and some possible new recruits.
Hoping for a much better turnout for Pride Edinburgh. Look out for the messaging coming your way shorty and watch this space.
