You probably have already noticed, but in case you’ve missed the banners in all the shop windows, it is officially Pride Season 2025 and I’d like to share an event this weekend. UNISON Edinburgh will be marching in the Porty Pride Dog Walk on Saturday morning and have a stall in Portobello Townhall.
PORTY PRIDE – Friday 6 June – Sunday 8 June 2025
Portobello’s Annual Community Organised Pride
Porty Pride is an intergenerational, intersectional, accessible community-run Pride. Community is a positive tool of activism and community-building is a powerful solution to social injustice.
Our community includes LGBTQ+ communities and their allies because it needs all of us to bring about the world, we want to live in.
LGBTQ+ people enrich Porty life, and we want to celebrate this within our communities. It belongs to Porty.
The ethos is to provide a safe, intergenerational, celebratory, and educational Pride weekend for the whole LGBTQ+ community their allies in a respectful environment.
The organisers aim to bring the whole community of Porty together to mark Pride and support everyone in the LGBTQ+ community to be themselves.
The Porty Pride Prom Dog Walk is back… otherwise known as The Porty Pride March
All members are invited to join-in and march in UNISON together.
Pride is not just a party, it is also a demonstration of hard-won rights, rights that have now been taken away from our trans comrades. The far-right doesn’t just want to do away trans rights & IDE, that is just the thin edge of a very large wedge. All organised labour must stand together in solidarity. MARCH! Because the difference between doing nothing and something is everything!
Bring your dogs, flags, banners, voices and friends.
Everyone is welcome with or without a dog!
The Dog Port are supporting this year’s walk and they will be offering treats to every dog plus prizes for canines who show their creative flair on the day!
10.45am meet at the bottom of Kings Road for an 11am start. Finishing at the bottom of John Street. This is an outdoor event.
Attached is a poster for your workplace notice board or social media page – please share.
With solidarity, Ian (he / him)
