Tomorrow (Thursday 8 September) sees us marching to the Scottish Parliament in protest of the cost-of-living crisis. It is vital that you, as a member of UNISON, come along and bring as many of your family, friends and work colleagues as possible. A massive turnout is required to ensure that Holyrood has no doubt that we are serious. We will assemble at 10.30am, Johnston Terrace, EH1 2PW and will march off at 11am.
The crisis is hitting not just societies vulnerable but working men and women right across Edinburgh and Scotland, and as usual public sector workers are bearing the brunt of this. Gas and electricity bills are set to increase again this October, and with this we will see a growth in the use of food banks and more families falling into poverty. We need to make a stand now.
UNISON and our sister unions are campaigning for a series of urgent actions to stop this crisis escalating. We demand of Parliament a reduction to energy bill costs, the introduction of rent caps and meaningful support and assistance for our most vulnerable. This will not happen without you – one voice can be silenced, many cannot – please make every effort to attend.
