TransPride Scotland 2025

UNISON-City of Edinburgh Branch were represented at TransPride on a cold and damp afternoon by Ian Ludlam, UNISON LGBT+ Officer and Ian Mullen, UNISON Education Officer.

A very colourful and lively crowd of about 250 – 300 Trans & Trans Allies were entertained by the famous “SheBoom” ladies samba drum band as they gathered outside Fife College.

It was great to see folk representative of all the LGBTQIA+ communities, the young & old, black & white, disabled people & non-disabled.

SheBoom lead the procession into Kirkcaldy town centre ahead of the gigantic transgender flag & a very large (not their day to show off too much) pansexual flag. The flags were carried by their respective community members.

The Transgender flag debuted in 1999. The light blue and light pink symbolize the traditional colours for baby girls and baby boys, respectively. The white represents those who identify as intersex, gender-neutral, or transitioning. The flag is symmetrical, so it always flies correctly.

Next to march out were the many trans allies, including the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, leather bikers, the Terrance Higgins Trust, Angus Pride and at least one gay dog.

Bringing up the rear were the unions. Represented were members from UNISON, UNITE, the FBU (Fire Scotland)   and Fife Trades Council.

The march, cheered on by residents of the ‘Lang Toun’, (& past some other, confused looking locals) made a lovely noisy procession through the streets of the city centre in a big loop to the Adam Smith Theatre where the charity stalls were held. Click on the images below for help and advice.
