Following the success of our 3 aggregate AGM’s, UNISON members gave their full support to motions related to opposing violence in the workplace. We would use those same motions as a springboard to launch the next phase of our Protect Council Staff From Violence campaign, and we need your support.
Your active participation is required in helping us protect the safety and wellbeing of all employed by City of Edinburgh Council. Violence against public service workers in our city, particularly school support staff, is reaching a critical mass and we need to address this together.
What can you do? All you need do is send a letter to your local councillor, urging them to support the adoption of UNISON’s Violence at Work Charter. This simplest of asks is the first step in ensuring better protection, support, and reporting for workers who can face physical and verbal assault on a daily basis.
Click here: https://action.unison.org.uk/page/166459/action/1 to send your letter now.
The process is simple – all you have to do is enter your postcode and email address, and the letter will be automatically generated. If you wish, you can customise the communication to make it more personal.
The letter calls on councillors to:
- Sign City of Edinburgh Council up to UNISON’s Violence at Work Charter.
- Ensure incidents of violence are properly reported and supported.
- Push for proactive interventions and better safety measures in schools and other frontline services.
It’s crucial that every one of our democratically elected councillors understand the scale of this issue and take immediate and appropriate action to protect our council workers. By sending this letter, you’re helping to ensure a safer working environment for everyone.
Thank you for your continued support in this critical campaign.
