Why are we moving?
The move to our current George IV Bridge office was always intended to be a temporary move made in urgency after the lease at St Giles Street was terminated to house temporary offices for the new Scottish Parliament. George IV Bridge does not meet accessibility requirements and is not DDA compliant.
What was our criteria for new premises?
The branch has repeatedly set out the following criteria for new premises:-
a) Accessible in terms of disability
b) Accessible in terms of public transport for members
c) A central location for members and within easy reach of City of Edinburgh Council HQ where most meetings with management take place.
Details of proposed new premises
10 Infirmary Street is a modern office which was part of the redevelopment of Infirmary Street baths. The Branch will be leasing the office space on the second floor.
The office meets all of the Branch criteria in that it is on several bus routes, there is local parking, it is DDA compliant and it is within easy reach of the main Council HQ buildings and City Chambers. There is a lift and disabled toilet provision. It has been approved by UNISON HQ.
The building is heated via a geo-thermal system. It is bright with large windows in the walls and ceiling. It has plenty space for staff, officers and touch down desks for conveners and stewards.
There is a welcoming reception area with seating for visitors. A meetings room can accommodate most branch sub-committees and there is a large open-plan table area for other meetings. Officers can meet members confidentially in the meetings room or another room which backs on to it.
There is a print room/postage area and an open plan kitchen area off the main room with the relevant appliances.
