Amber warning of extreme heat affecting Dumfries, Galloway, Lothian & Borders

On Friday 15 July 2022, the Met Office circulated a warning for extreme heat for Monday and Tuesday. Information was sent to UNISON representatives and Corporate Health and Safety colleagues asking that managers make arrangements to alleviate the potential risks from dehydration and heat exhaustion.

These are not regular working conditions and may affect employees in different ways, especially colleagues with underlying health conditions, menopause, Long COVID and fatigue syndrome etc.

Arrangements such as working from home were possible, moving workstations from direct sunlight, taking regular breaks outside should be considered along with adequate provision of drinking water and sun block if working outdoors. If this has not happened, please raise it with your line manager in the first instance.

Yours in comradeship and solidarity.

Health and Safety Officer
