Happy Disability Pride Month

Disability Pride Month started in America in 1990 when the ‘Americans with Disabilities’ act came into power. In Scotland, disabled people’s rights are covered by the Equality Act. It is celebrated every year to highlight the diversity within the disabled community and for people to take pride in their disabilities.

Many disabled people are also LGBT+ and Disability Pride goes side by side with LGBT+ Pride and now is the time to talk about the barriers you face and lack of opportunities you have. UNISON is inclusive but if you’d like to discuss this more or have any idea’s I’d be happy to hear from you on how we can shape the organisation into being even more inclusive and supportive.
