Members Ballot for Strike Action

UNISON is balloting local government members working in schools and nurseries as well as those working in waste and recycling services for strike action. The ballot opens on 10 June and will close at midday on 26 July. It is vital that all ballots are returned, by post, in good time – to ensure we receive them by the closing date.

Members who also opt to take strike action will receive financial support from UNISON!

Your ballot will arrive in a blue envelop, see the image above. Please look out for it. Open it. Fill it in. And return it as soon as you can. We must receive it before 26 July.

If you are a UNISON member and you work in a school providing services to the running and operation of the school, or a member working in early years or a member working in waste and recycling services, you will receive a ballot.

UNISON is recommending its members – including teaching assistants, early years workers, school catering staff, cleaners, support staff, janitors and refuse workers – vote YES for strike action.

But most of all? Please vote. We need to hear your voice.

Yes, a select group of workers is being balloted and targeted for strike action.  However, UNISON is campaigning for a pay-rise for ALL local government workers.

Having consistently worked above and beyond to keep our key services going over the past two years of the pandemic, with the essential work you do in keeping our country running, and with the cost-of-living spiralling, COSLA’s offer of a 2 per cent increase is nothing short of an insult. You are worth so much more.

While politicians have raced to praise your efforts, their warm words have not been matched by action. We need to send a strong message to the Scottish Government and to COSLA, our employers, that the essential services you provide should be valued.

You deserve a decent pay rise.

Again, the ballot opens on 10 June and will close at midday on 26 July. It is vital that all ballots are returned, by post, in good time – to ensure we receive them by the closing date.

Your work is essential. Your vote is vital. Our employers aren’t going to rethink unless we stand firm together. Make your vote count! Vote YES to strike action, let us all remind our employers that we all deserve better.

New joiners of UNISON can join up to the 14th of July to ensure that they get the opportunity to vote in the ballot.

Also, we need workplace contacts to speak to their colleagues and get the message out. Would you like to support the pay campaign?

Thank you.   Team UNISON
