UNISON is balloting local government members working in schools and nurseries as well as those working in waste and recycling services for strike action. The ballot opens on 10 June and will close at midday on 26 July. It is vital that all ballots are returned, by post, in good time – to ensure we receive them by the closing date.
UNISON believes that our members deserve a much better pay offer this year, more than any other time. The cost of living crisis, Inflation, additional National Insurance and the huge hikes in fuel prices mean that many of our members are worse off than ever before . What has been offered by the employer amounts to a cut in wages when you consider the rate of inflation.
We are asking our members in Schools, Early Years, Waste and Recycling to vote to take strike action. Our members in these services worked throughout the pandemic, missing the payment from Scottish Government and without the recognition they deserve. By targeting your services we believe UNISON can put most pressure on the employer to come back to the negotiation table and make a better offer.
Ballot papers will be in brightly coloured blue envelopes and will be dropping through your doors from Friday 10 June. We ask that you vote in favour of strike action and return you ballot paper without delay.
We have organised online meetings where we can speak to you about the pay offer, what strike action will look like and how UNISON plans to compensate anyone who loses wages due to strike action. This will also allow you to ask any questions and raise any issues.

Your work is essential. Your vote is vital. Our employers aren’t going to rethink unless we stand firm together. Make your vote count! Vote YES to strike action, let us all remind our employers that we all deserve better.
Also, we need workplace contacts to speak to their colleagues and get the message out. Would you like to support the pay campaign? Many thanks
