From 2010 to 2012, UNISON Edinburgh Branch fought plans to privatise a huge swathe of the city’s services involving 4,000 jobs. Had the privatisation gone ahead, it would have been a Trojan Horse for privatisation of council services across Scotland. But it didn’t and in January 2012, after almost two years of hard campaigning, public meetings, lobbies, research, briefings and action with local communities, the final privatisation plan was defeated. The campaign was revived as Our City’s Still Not For Sale in 2015 to fight privatisation of Facilities Management – and we won again!
