Midlothian – A memorial event will also be held by Midlothian TUC, with the support of Midlothian Council at the Michael McGahey Memorial in George V Park, Bonnyrigg EH19 2AD starting at 12.30.

Each year on 28 April, International Workers’ Memorial Day (IWMD) is marked around the world to Remember the Dead, Fight for the Living and officially recognised by the Government.

We remember those killed, made ill, or injured by their own or someone else’s work. Their pain and suffering and that of their families should not be forgotten. We also renew our commitment to, and demand once more, safe and healthy work for all.

In 2018 the theme for the day is Unionised Workplaces are Safer Workplaces and will focus the huge difference that unions make in preventing deaths in the workplace. We will also be celebrating 40 years of union health and safety representatives.
