UNISON and Trade Unions in Communities activists continued their support and solidarity for RMT comrades on their Wednesday 4 January picket line outside Waverley Station. Further strike action dates have been announced with a mandate for industrial action up to May 2023 before a re-ballot is required. The UK government refuses to intervene and instruct the employers to resolve this long running dispute and comes on the back of today’s announcement that the government intend to fast track further restrictions on the trade unions.
Ian Mullen, Branch Health and Safety Officer said:
Even the damp, cold weather could not put RMT comrades of standing up for their rights to better pay and conditions. More importantly is their fight to retain a no compulsory redundancy policy and transport safety for staff and commuters.
RMT members and their trade union leaders are an inspiration to the trade union movement. Taking on the employer is one thing, but taking on this Tory Government, hell bent on attacking the trade union movement and their supporters in UKs right wing press is another. RMT deserve our continued support, please look out for further strikes on Fridays and Saturdays and show your support for workers’ rights.
